They discovered that filter, plunger and espresso-type coffeemakers have more antioxidants in coffee grounds, while mocha coffeemakers have the least.

Because filter and espresso coffeemakers are more popular in homes and commercial kitchens, the researchers claim that most grounds are likely to be good sources of antioxidants and other useful substances. They also state that after these compounds are extracted, the coffee grounds can still be used for fertilizer.

Genius Ways to Reuse Coffee Grounds

After doing some research on reusing coffee grounds, I have found some genius ways on how to reuse coffee grounds around the house:

01. Compost

The good thing about paper filters and coffee grounds are that both are compostable. Used coffee grounds are abundant in nitrogen, which makes them ideal for composting. (Worms love coffee almost as much as you do!)

In a compost pile, the target for a ratio of one part leaves to one part fresh grass clippings to one part coffee grounds.

Don’t forget that freshly brewed coffee grounds won't have the same effect on your garden; you should make sure that they have broken down and composted before you toss them on your plants.

02. Clean plates

Since coffee grounds have a coarse texture of coffee grounds, they are effective as an abrasive, which means you can utilize them to clean hard-to-wash plates.

Just put some coffee grounds into a cleaning rag and twist the ends with a rubber band to secure them in place. Then you have a perfect DIY coffee sponge to wash.

03. Exfoliate

Just like coffee grounds are an excellent abrasive for washing your plates and kitchenware, they can also be a good exfoliant for your skin.

Combine with equal parts olive oil and rub into your skin. The coffee grounds exfoliate, while the olive oil acts as a moisturizer.

04. Fix furniture scratches

Do you have a dining table that requires some fixing? Combine a pot's worth of used coffee grounds with 1/4 cup warm water and 1/4 cup vinegar, shake and set aside for about one hour.
