No Gym: Best Ways to Exercise at Home

By Ann Hills / a couple of years ago

There are two kinds of people in the world: those who go to the gym, and those who don’t. What most people don’t know is, regardless of whether you go to the gym or not, everyone wants to have a good healthy body. But some are just unable to even commit to go to the gym, or some simply cannot afford it. There are so many reasons why so many people don’t go to the gym. So what’s the solution? It’s very simple really, you can just exercise at home. And the best way to figure out which exercise suits you, is it to first understand your body.

By paying a nutritionist a visit, you will be able to understand what kind of body you have, how your metabolism works, and what your body can and cannot handle in terms of exercise and strain on muscles. After you’ve done this, you need to figure out your calorie intake, and see what you should eat and cut out in order to set the diet right. There are plenty of sports apps available that provides a free calorie counter as well as options to keep track of how many steps you take and even how much water consumption you make in a day. Once you have all these details, you can comfortably start implementing exercises into your daily routine, right from the comfort of your home.

These are the best kinds of exercises to go for if you don’t have any kind of exercise equipment at home. You basically just use your body weight to really get that workout going. The best way to make this really effective, is to do these exercises one after the other, without taking any breaks- this is also known as a circuit exercise. Body weight exercises include jumping jacks, squats, lunges, planks, push ups, sit ups and many more that doesn’t require you to have any kind of equipment at all. Each exercise focuses on a part of your body and if done constantly, can really make a difference in just a span of a few months.

A great way to get a good workout, especially if you have no idea where to start or how long you should be doing each exercise for when you’re at home, is to download a fitness app. These apps pretty much guide you through each and every step, with either illustrations or videos to show you exactly how each move is done so you don’t mess up and do something incorrectly. They’re great because they allow you to keep track of how much you do, and they ease you in by starting off slow, and then gradually increasing the intensity of each exercise.

If you’re uncomfortable with going to a gym or don’t have time to go, but still feel like you can only get the exercise done properly with the guidance of a professional, then you have the option to hire a personal instructor online. You will communicate on the phone when need be, but most of your sessions will be live, online. This will cost you a bit, but it’ll be worth it because they will walk you through every single aspect of getting fit, from the exercises that suit your body type, to keeping track of your daily food intake and your overall nutrition and health. They will also advise you on what vitamins you might need to take.

There are so many instructional videos available online these days. You can think of any form of exercise, and you’ll certainly bound to find a tutorial on the internet for it. So you can either search the web randomly for different videos, or you can sign up with a certain website or instructor and have a whole package that will take you through a proper workout routine for say 6 months or a year.

There are apps available now that allow you to customize your own workout based on whatever equipment you do have available at home, the amount of free time that you have, and of course, your body type along with how intense you’d like it to be.

When you combine fun and exercise together, there’s nothing quite like it! And for those who’d like to stick to doing it from home, think about dance games that come with the light up mats - these are great ways to work out and have fun at the same time! There are also some game consoles that are interactive where you can play bowling or tennis, and get some real arm action in there.

If you love to dance, then just do that at home! Get an aerobics video on, put some of your favorite music on blast, and jump around like they did in the 80s! It may sound funny, but this too, can be a very effective form of exercise, and you get to have fun while doing it. Look into watching zumba videos as well, they are the most active in terms of getting a workout with dance.

Yoga is a great form of fitness to take on when you’re at home. Even though it may look less intense than other approaches to fitness, it can be just as effective, if not more. There are different levels of yoga that focus on different parts of your body. It all depends on what you’d like to get done.

If, for whatever reason, you find going to the gym to be a challenge, then your perfect body dreams don’t have to come to an end. You can always have your own gym at home! Whether you have the equipment or not is actually irrelevant, because there are so many different ways and approaches available that will get you fit in no time, right from the comfort of your home. The only thing is that you need to make sure that there is commitment and regularity, so that you’re able to see some actual changes.
